Artistic Director / Founder
Julian has been involved in music all his life, as a boy soprano, touring as a concert pianist and organist, as a singer, with local choirs like the Winnipeg Philharmonic and All the King's Men, and national choirs like the Nathanial Dett Choral, along with various choirs overseas, such as the noted Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart. For 35 years, he has been a church music director, composer/arranger, and music director of musicals, most notably with North Kildonan Community Players, Crosswalk Players, and Dramatic Theatre. In 1994 he founded the Manitoba Sacred-Music Choir, rebranding as ReSound! in 2003. In 1995, Julian received the keys to the city of Treviso, Italy, as well as medals of honour and distinction from The Netherlands and Italy. In 2004, Julian founded the Baroque Life Ensemble, an ad-hoc instrumental group performing music of the baroque. His comprehensive work involving Christian–Jewish relations has earned him the honour of having several trees planted in his name in Israel. He is much sought after as an arranger, conductor, singer, accompanist, orchestrator, hymnologist, liturgist, and vocal/choral/worship clinician, adjudicator, and teacher. He has performed and accompanied in the Winnipeg Music Festival, Winnipeg Fringe Festival, and Folklorama. Julian studied conducting with Helmuth Rilling (Stuttgart Germany), Sir John Elliot Gardiner (London, U.K.), and in Winnipeg with Dr. William Baerg. Julian has two degrees in Music/Theology/Conducting, from the University of Winnipeg, and Canadian Mennonite University (Concord College). He is also Music Director of the Winnipeg Police Service Choir. Julian enjoys movies, time with friends, reading, board games, knitting, the culinary arts, and recently added fishing to his list of favourite pastimes.
